What teams are in the SEC Conference?

With the latest additions of Texas and Oklahoma, the SEC conference contains 16 teams. The full list is below.

This season will be the SEC’s first campaign without divisions since 1991. Here is a glance at each team’s standing after last season.

Alabama Crimson Tide

Often considered the gold standard of the SEC, the defending conference champion Crimson Tide find themselves in a new era under the guidance of former Washington Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer. The landscape of college football has changed drastically. With newcomers gunning for their prestige, will Alabama return to the top of the college football mountain?

Their last season with less than 11 wins came back in 2010 when they went 10-3.

Arkansas Razorbacks

The Razorbacks are coming off a setback as their 4-8 campaign washed away momentum from the previous year. The road doesn’t get any easier for the Hogs, who have only put together one nine-win season in the past 12 years.

Auburn Tigers

The Tigers have tried to elevate their brand in recent years. While some upsets have emerged, they have yet to make the leap from mediocrity. Some fresh meat in the market could provide them with a boost up the standings or keep them floundering in the middle of the pack. Auburn has not put together a season with more than six wins since 2019.

Florida Gators

The chomp has been trying to make a comeback to old days, but the results just have not been there with a combined 8-16 conference record in the past three seasons. The Swamp is still brutal, but the product has failed to live up to expectations.

Georgia Bulldogs

The Bulldogs have been part of the cultural shift in the SEC with back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022. A lone loss to Alabama in the SEC title game derailed their hopes for a three-peat. Expect the group to eye revenge in the new era.

Kentucky Wildcats

Big Blue Nation has seen their program rise with 24 wins in the past three seasons. The Wildcats are 11-13 in conference play during that span. The competition continues to stiffen, but Kentucky has proven capable of playing some of the big boys, including a marquee victory over Florida last season.

LSU Tigers

The Bayou remains a rugged place to play, and the Tigers have been a thorn in many sides. LSU has captured two straight 10-win seasons, including an impressive 12-4 record in conference play. Marquee victories last season include Florida and Texas A&M.

Mississippi State Bulldogs

After a strong overall showing in 2022, the Bulldogs took a step back, including a miserable 1-7 conference record and the firing of head coach Zach Arnett. The program looks to right the ship under Jeff Lebby.

Missouri Tigers

The Tigers’ steady resurgence is courtesy of head coach Eli Drinkwitz. Last year they took a major leap with an 11-2 record, capped with a Cotton Bowl shutdown of a prolific Ohio State offense. Their only losses the entire season came at the hands of Georgia and LSU.

Ole Miss Rebels

Lane Kiffin’s Rebels delivered a sensational 11-win campaign as he continues to revitalize the program. Their only losses the entire season came from Georgia and Alabama. Ole Miss finished ninth in the final AP poll and will look to take a deeper step this season.

Oklahoma Sooners

One of the two massive newcomers, the Sooners are looking to make a statement and flip the conference upside down, despite losing Heisman contending quarterback Dillon Gabriel. Oklahoma’s high-powered offense collides with the rugged SEC. It’s a dream matchup for most. Now, it becomes a weekly reality. Three of their past five seasons in the Big 12 have been 10 wins or more. It will be fascinating to see if they continue that trend in their new surroundings.

South Carolina Gamecocks

South Carolina has had a topsy turvy program since 2017, when they went 9-4. Shane Beamer has recruited well in recent years, but the mediocre play continues to plague their progress. They are coming off a 5-7 campaign and the road isn’t getting any easier.

Tennessee Volunteers

The Vols have risen up the ranks with elite playmakers in recent years. After a sensational 2022, Tennessee took a step back with a 9-4 campaign. Those four losses came against Florida, Alabama, Missouri and Georgia. They remain one of the toughest outs, no matter who they play.

Texas Longhorns

Fresh off their first appearance in the College Football Playoff, the Longhorns enter into the SEC conference with bad intentions. The standard has been raised under head coach Steve Sarkisian. Guided by elite signal caller Quinn Ewers, and bevy of playmakers, Texas is eyeing not only an SEC championship, but the national title as well.

Texas A&M Aggies

While their rivals are dipping their feet in the SEC waters for the first time, the Aggies are well versed in the gauntlet disguised as a conference. They have been stuck in the middle of the pack for years. They finished 7-6 last season. A far cry from their 9-1 campaign in 2020 that concluded with fourth in the final AP Poll.

Vanderbilt Commodores

Vandy has been an SEC bottom-dweller for years. The program has had its share of successful stretches, but overall, the competition has been too much to handle for the small school. They lost all eight of their conference games last season and have lost 22 conference games in the last three seasons.
